Next batch

This batch is the end of what's in the pipeline for me for a while, time to turn some more.

RM Smith inspired swimmers, nice waggle, and 3 blurple ones for the nighttime.

On a side note, I got to meet and shake hands with Ryan Smith today, and Paul from Cyclone, and Mike Fixter.

Todays pluggage from the show:

Top one is a chartreuse swimmer from Cyclone.

Bottom one is a Fixter Pikie, all the way from California. My buddy bought 2 more of a larger size as well.

I love the wiggle on those swimmers. They look great ed. I got a blurble jinski and sconie game me one of ryans of which reminds me I need to return the favor.
That pike looks awesome.

I was too shot to go to the show today. Long day driving rain yesterday.
I'm armed and ready for the season and I probably saved a few hunert.

I noticed the fixter pikie hooks are cut with a dremel for no split ring.

I do the same thing on most of my plugs too, cut the hooks with a small pair of bolt cutters (Homies, $8) and open them up, slip them onto the swivel, then close them back up. One less thing to fail.
Roc takes it one step further and silver solders them closed again.
Roc has too much time on his hands.......

Rick, I use VMC almost exclusively, they are not too pricey when purchased in quantity, they hold up well and are freekin' sharp.

Just got back from swimmimg the last batch and the 2 I bought, all around, my swimmers worked and the Pikie and the Cyclone, well.....they really worked, the pikie could slow to a crawl in the current and just wiggle, wiggle, wiggle. Can't WAIT for pluggin' season.
Saw a guy with about an 18" striper today, it whacked a ball jig with an eel tail on it.

I tired cutting a couple VMC's last night and had some problems. I did end up finding out how sharp a VMC it and bled all over the place.

After cutting at the base, do you open up, to the side, or twist the wire to open? I did end up breaking one hook, and didn't trust another that I opened and closed.

Rick, there are 2 schools of thought on how to open up the hooks, I was originally shown to twist the eye open, and then twist it back to close, but I broke many a hook doing that, I now cut them and use a steel centerpunch stuck into the loop to open them up....hold on, I'll take a picture.




A couple of light taps with a hammer and they open enough to go on the swivel, I leave the jaws of the vise open enough for the centerpunch to fit in, when the jaws are adjusted right, the centerpunch stops when the hook is open enough. I think this method spreads out the stress of the bend around a larger area, where twisting them put all the stress right at the top of the loop. But what the hell do I know, I'm a fisherman. Closing the hook is easy with just a normal pair of pliers.

May 30th last year, caught many dozen bluefish while waiting for darkness and the bass to arrive, first bass I caught at dusk shook it's head and sunk a 3/0 treble all the way into my pointer fnger

I'd love to build a shop and produce my own... My future shop is
filled with about 6000 linear feet of baseboard that has yet to be
installed in my house. Its been there for about 3 yrs now since I
moved into my house.

It easily took me 2 years to get the limited shopspace and tools that I needed to get going on plugs, glad I did it, it's kept me sane this winter, by this time last year I HAD to go fishing, this year I can miss all the freezing weather and water, and get ready for when the real fish show up.
I am starting to get the itch pretty bad, tho.......
