refinshing fiber glass
i have a small fiber glass boat.. been sitting for years. wife and i have gotten the fishing bug again. we do mostly surf, however that boat is looking like fun to be had..
washed it down and it needs only "minor" repair work it is a 12".. one crack/hole near what is a handle of sorts. assume that all i need to do is sand down and repair with cloth an glass resin it is not all that big of an area.
next the gunnel is weathered /worn down. all around the top edge. completely around the entire boat. glass cloth is showing thru. very itchy. what is the proper way to deal with this? what should i coat this with? resin or just a gelcoat
last is the bottom seems to have been coated with something that is peeling off i think it may be fiber glass resin. the prevous owner may have put a coat on over the gelcoat years ago. was just going to sand it down then recoat..but with what..
as far as paint do i need to go with the marine grade stuff or can i get away with something cheaper... boat will see mostly fresh water..
