Default Penn torque 200 star drag

Hi,
I basically only fish the western Long Island sound. Have an 18ft center console, will probably never go offshore fishing. I have a chance to buya penn torque 200 star drag/ versa drag international for $249 at tackle direct. The biggest fish I target are bass & blues. The reel weighs 27 oz. Is it just overkill? I have an empty tiger stick medium 7 ft conventional rod to put it on. Is it worth it? I also fish for porgies, sea bass, blackfish, but with much lighter tackle. Deepest waters would be 60 to 80 feet. I've been trying to diverse from all spinning tackle and bait runners. Is the penn reel overkill and am I just attracted to the great discount and the looks of the reel. Someone talk some sense into me please. Also would it be good for trolling deep diving lures?
Thanks
Vin

That's a nice looking reel, but I think it would look even better on a custom made stand-up tuna rod, than on your Tiger Stick. 27 oz is about 11 oz more than I'd care to go. Serioius overkill in my opinion...

Thanks cardboard box, I think that's all I needed to hear, I already have a Penn 975 on medium Penn torque rod. The tiger stick is just extra, and that reel deserves much better. There are no tuna where I fish, so I agree, it's overkill. Thanks again for the feed back. tight lines!

Heya Vin,

If you're anything like me, you still want to have a reel on that 7 footer. I had an extra one as well and wanted an inexpensive reel but could handle a decent striper/blue. I ended up rocking a Penn Fierce 4000 with 20 or 30lb braid. I actually landed my first striper of the year with a snagged bunker/menhaden/pogie(however you refer to these guys!) using this light rod. Was a heck of a fun battle! The reel is only 12.5 ounces.

Edit: I just realized you are trying to go away from a spinning reel. Oopsies!

Tight lines!
