REHOBOTH - A local man is accused by Rhode Island environmental officials of poaching striped bass and hiding the illegal catch in a hidden compartment of his boat.
Albert Reeves, 47, is charged by the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management with catching more than his limit of striped bass.
He was stopped in Galilee by DEM officials who had information that Reeves was taking more than the allowable limit.
Officials found eight striped bass, which is a legal recreational catch for four fishermen with Reeves, but then they found the compartment containing 11 more of the bass.
His boat and equipment were seized and the fish were donated to Amos House in Providence. Reeves could not be reached for comment Thursday afternoon.
