Default Winter Stripers in lower Ohio River

I have cabin fever anyone fishing for Stripers now? I fish Kentucky Lake February through mid December. I thought maybe there is some action up on the Ohio River now. Maybe in the Dam Tailrace??

Ooooh yeah.. They have been getting on them pretty good below the dams. I personally haven't had the chance to make it myself. However, I've been reminded of the action that I'm missing weekly.

I would suggest checking some of the earlier wiper posts. There are some guys who fish the Ohio exclusively; you might want to send them a PM and see if they have current info on the river.

Hope the fever passes soon. I use the time to fix up old lures, review what did and did not work last year, and make plans for March 2009. When I get the itch in about February, I go to a boat show, and when that doesn't work, I head south to Cherokee Lake TN; there are some fine wipers in there.

Good Luck,

Don't catch many true Stripers up my way at Greenup Dam but from the next dam (Meldahl) on down river there are quite a few more. LMJ can fill you in on that area. The river is really high right now and I haven't been Wiper fishing for a while but it's really good fishing below any of the dams.

The river was so high at McAlpine Dam at Louisville that the boat ramp was closed two days ago. I haven't seen anyone fishing out there for a few weeks. I drive by every few days.
