Default Best way to catch a few herring?

Whats the best way to catch a few Herring for live bait? Besides a net lol. I figure since the fish at night in the marsh are jumping so close to me I nearly get splashed, I might as well throw something out on a lite action rod, then move the live Herring over to a bigger rod in hopes of hooking up with a larger striper. I imagine something smaller would be used, but I have no idea what to throw out for Herring. Any ideas?

Use a sabiki rig. I prefer Hayabusa or Owner... sharp hooks. We catch bunches of herring, as well as similar size baitfish on sabikis on both Florida coasts. Wish we had them when I was a kid, draggin' dead cigar minnows. I've watched guys slaving with cast nets, not catching anything, while I has hauling in 3 or 4 at a time on a sabiki. Come to think of it I'll have to try it the next time I head for the cape!

Good luck!

Oh nice. Thank you. I have seen people use those things in the past. I just either forgot all about them, or never thought about doing it lol. Or both :)

Thanks!
