Post White Perch as Live Bait

Has anyone ever tried using white perch as a live bait for stipers?

Works great around here (SC) in freshwater certain times of the year. Sometimes, thats all they'll hit for days at a time. The guys around here like to hook them thru the back near the tail, and freeline them. I'm not into it myself, but they do work. Same goes with brim.

Tried it many times, caught a few fish here and there but never did particularly well with em.
I think they're pretty far down the chain of preferred snacks. If there's any other bait in the water they won't give the perch a second look.

Sudsy,

Thanks for the heads up. I thought they might be similiar to using Scup that people seem to have a good success rate with.

Here near Philly, during the spring run on the Delaware River, white perch often run at the same time as stripers. Both can be caught on bloodworms. I will often then take a smaller white perch and liveline it for stripers and have had success doing so. One tip, the perch have pointy spikes in the front part of their dorsal fins. I will use scissors to cut the spike down, this way when a striper hits the perch it wont spit it as a result of getting spiked in the mouth or throat.
