Welcome to the the room. IM not the greatest striper guy, BUT! Line color, I use mono, 20# test, Okuma reels, I have two set up with 30# test.

Bait, kinda depends where your fishing, BUT, live eels and herring, chunk bunker and herring, also blood and sand worms (IM not to big on these). I like to troll, Boated 6 this weekend, all trolling. Other guys will pipe in. I've learned a ton of stuff from these guys. Just keep reading and asking. Good luck.

Color makes no difference, because you should put a Flourocarbon leader...I kinda like the hi-vis stuff...
Yo-Zuri and Trilene Big Game are my favorites...

Anything from 15lb test to 50lb test works...just depends on how you are fishing...

My favorite setup is as follows: penn power stick medium to medium heavy rod with a penn 320 gti levelwind reel. For line I use 50 - 65 pound power pro braided line in the dark green color. (that makes them think twice when you go to hook 'em!) If primarily stripers are in the area use a 24- 30 inch seaguar fluorocarbon leader in 25 - 40 pound test. When blues are around sevenstrand camouflage leader material works well usually 40 or 60 pound test. For hooks, gamagatsu 8/0 octopus or octopus circle hooks are good. Depending on the current and water depth use a slide (so the fish can't feel the weight of the sinker) with a barrel sinker 1/2 to 4 ounces. And then the other two most important items are fresh bait and a quality fishfinder. Good luck, I hope this information was helpful!

Hey guys, I new to the board but would add my .02 as well..

20# mono, fluro leader (I tied my pompano's with 50#)...I'm in NJ, right now I'm using clam in the surf as well as bunker, and herring. They're also hitting the bloods as well.

Oh, should add..I'm lucky enough to have a 11' custom built lami (my bro-in-law built it for me for birth-christmas present) and I'm using a Daiwa BG60 reel.

Good luck!
