Default a good starting point or no?

I am trying to rig up my jet ski to fish this spring for stripers, and i want to keep it simple to start.

After few nights of searching on several forum, i am looking for 2 spinning combos.

1st set
a 7" Shimano Teramar 1/2 - 1 1/2oz MH with a Shimano Sahara 3000 Reel

2nd set
a 6.6" Shakespeare Ugly Stik 1/2 - 3oz M with a Pfluegen President 6735 Reel

will these two rods get the job done if i am just throwing lures/plastics targeting stripers? I will fish mainly the Chesapeake Bay bridge right by SPSP.

also can i use either of this set to live bait a spot/eel?

If you hook up with a big fish on a 1/2 - 1 1/2oz rod you could have trouble.
The second rod is the better choice.

i'd be more concerned with that sahara than the rod. that rod has great backbone. i'd catch a 40 with it on a kayak or some chit. that reel though? you'll get less than 150yds of 20# pp on it but from a jetski you can get away with less line me thinks. i've not used one but i picked one up and it's too small for my liking. the drag seems to be enough but i'm like tim the tool man and supersize everything with a vengeance.
