Reel for a 10' Tica

Hi, I just purchased a tica 10'er and was looking for advice for a reel to pair it with. 100-150 dollar budget. would the baitrunner be any good? thanks

While this is my first year striper fishing I did purchase a 9' Tica and a 10 tsunami airwave on the 9' I have an Okuma av65 and on the 10' I have the Okuma abf65 both with 30lb power pro and they both feel very balanced to me. The best thing to do is to take your rod shopping with you and try the reels you are considering buying on the rod to check for the best balance in your opinion.

More than likely bait. But I would like to plug also, not seriously but just to test the waters and get the feel for it before I invest heavily in a plugging rod. with that set up will I be able to do both? thanks for the responses. also if i go with the shimano shoul;d i get the 4500 or 6500?

What is the rating on the rod you got? That will determine what it is best suited for.

If you're going to be doing any plugging at all, go with the 4500. The 6500 is just too heavy to plug with for any length of time, in my opinion,,, and I'm no wimp.

For how I use mine, I have it spooled with about 50yards of 30lb Big Game mono backing, then filled the rest of the way with 30lb test Berkely Fireline, topped off with a 40lb test Ande Flourocarbon leader.

That said, the type of line and test that will be optimal for you really depends on where and how you will be fishing it.
