Help.... Hampton beach info needed

I have to head to Hapton beach tomorrow AM early for a few days of training... after training of course I'll be casting my line into the water.

Does ANYONE have any hints about fishing around Hampton beach NH for stripers... or anything else, from shore?

Where do I go? what do I use?

Mackerel chunks. I float em or use a fishfinder rig when I use weight. Look for the usual structure along the coast, rock piles, bends, points etc. Also look for working birds or fish bustin. If you happen to find the fish, wood plug like danny's and pencil poppers work well, as well as surface poppers.

Plenty of good spots along the coast, cant mention em though ;) Most of mine are "hard to tread" anyhow.

When do we float verse useing a weight? Off a pier or boat I can see floating but surf casting I'd imagine if you are useing bait a weight is necessary.

When I'm fishing coves and bends from rocks where the surf is calmer, I will float bait. When fishing directly off the sand and in the heavier surf, ofcourse weight comes into play :D

Also, If you fish a jetty, which say is receiving an east to west tide, do you want to fish on the west side of the jetti in the calm or on the east side in the waves? Fishing straight off the end where I am going would be a challenge at best.

Sounds like the west side calm at the point could be an ambush point where the stripers might be holding. I would give it a shot, if no hits in 20 minutes move. The east side with the tide coming in brings in the bait and in turn the stripers follow. Float out a bunker head without a weight at high tide. Dont have to get it out far. If no hits change up.

It still a little early in New York but when it busts hold on to your pole with both hands. :D

ok sounds good, thank you for the advice. Also I am able to catch snappers quite readily out there on the bay side, would freshchunk snapper or a large snappers head be as ample as say frozen chunk shad or mackeral?

We used to live line the whole snapper for blues. Not my choice for bass though, but little fish eat big fish. In October frozen works fine. so does bunker heads. But fresh bunker is best. The bait shops should still have bunker. I saw the S.I. bait guy last week he sells to all the local shops. He expects to have fresh bunker well into November.

Just got back... and manhattan or Hampton, I imagine striper behavior is generally similar. I tried off the beach but in the wake of the hurricane the surf was heavy. I didn't bring my 12' rod so I couldn't get past the breaks and even with 4-5 oz. I was washing up on shore and catching seaweed.

The weather and work kept me from trying the bay and floating..... but I will head back down again to give it a try.

dont give up the snappers completely. when the spearing move in snappers follow and then the stripers also. :D Generally late september here. The mullet are spawning now in the back bays then they move out for the migration down the jersey coast. Then its fun time along the coast. This is still a good time to fish the back bays. You'd be amazed at the places the big ones go to looking for bait. :D Places you wouldnt think would have any stripers.

I just noticed your web site. So your a reef man. Very 8) Cool.
Corals take TLC. So does any animal really. I didnt see nemo but i had a few Percula clowns that my snowflake eel devoured within seconds of their entry. So much for 44 bucks. :oops: I put an aquarium thread in all other fishies. dept. Feel free to opine. No bloviating please only me and O'reilly can bloviate. :D
