Does anyone know if you need a license to fish off the Jersey shore into salt water?

Definately Not!!! At least not yet.

It only costs you an arm an a leg for beach access.

Many of the town beaches are private and they bang out non residents with beach buggy and or access fees.

Alright thanks. I want to head to around Belmar and try my luck fishing there. If I go early or before sunset, you dont have to pay. Anyone know of any piers or anothing around there where its free to fish?

Belmar, I'm not sure I remember where that is. I was stationed at Monmouth for 2 years. We used to get off work, drive right down to Long Branch and fish the beach and the Jetties....I know you used to be able to head down there....During the week it was great, no one was ever around, the nights and weekends though it would tend to get pretty crowded.

That's home water for me.
No, there are no fee's to fish. Even in the summer you are allowed on the beach without paying for a tag so long as you're fishing not swimming and are away from the swimming areas.
No, there are no free piers to fish from, but that shouldn't matter, most of the fish you catch are withing 25 yards of the beach anyway.

So I am assuming it is free to fish in any salt water. I have a house in Cape Cod so I will do most of my fishing in salt water up there.

The states not listed do not require a saltwater license but legislation is aimed at changing that in other coastal states. Delaware being the latest. So far it has been successfully blocked.
