No herring for massholes?

Talked to the fishin buddy the other day, he says mass. outlawed herring for a few years. I musta missed something.

Yeah, but that doesnt stop the "Fishladder Invaders" and the commercial fleet. Or does this ban include it all?

Heres an earlier post that Rocc and Tony started about Cod and herring. it may clear things up a bit. Bill 322.CMR 6.17 is a complete 2 year moritorium of the harvest,possesion or sale of river herring in Mass state waters

The commercial ban is atlantic herring. Clupea harengus

The sale ban for inshore in Mass is River herring. Alewife, Blueback, Am. Shad and Hickory Shad

2) Three-Year River Herring Moratorium on Harvest, Possession, & Sale (322 CMR 6.17): In response to recent drastic declines of many river herring spawning runs, the harvest, possession or sale of river herring in the Commonwealth or in the waters under the jurisdiction of the Commonwealth by any person is prohibited through 2008. To accommodate the bait harvesting fisheries, the MFAC approved a slight tolerance (up to 5%, by count, of a batch of fish may be comprised of river herring species).
