Re: Federal wildlife officers association. Help stop poaching
I don't know if this belongs here, but it has to do with treatment of poachers.
I went to Ireland this past summer to visit the old sod ( hers, not mine). Met an avid fisherman, gave him six or so copies of the NJ Fisherman I'd finished reading. We were instantly ol' fishing buddies. He told me that you buy a license for four salmon for the year. At a limit of four you don't take anything small. Before you leave the salmon stocked lake, you log at the post provided, the fish you're taking and it's particulars...date,size, etc. If you get caught out of season or not logging out(either is considered poaching by the authorities) you stand to lose everything you used to take that, or those fish. You stand to lose: that $700 spey rod, reel, waders, creel, vest, shirt, pants, underwear, and.....the car you drove to get there. We need some of that hardline attitude here.

Re: Federal wildlife officers association. Help stop poaching
In California the DFG is a joke...We pay close to $50 depending on how many tags you need, Steelhead, Sturgeon...And they tell us they have no money..Iv'e called CAL-TIP to inform the DFG wardens of over fishing only to hear theres no one to respond..Now they are pushing a bill to irradicate the stripers because they eat salmon...This is proposed by a politician representing Kern County, which is farmers demanding more & more water for growing nuts & high water crops..This same major grower a Slug called Resnick figures if the bass are gone then the Fishermans opposition will stop....These bass got along with salmon for years when there were about 7 million each...The reason of bass & salmon declines is the water going south to growers for nuts..Along with the pumps chewing everything up...Growers support the politicians with campaign funds...The DFG head is appointed by the gov of california....So you get the picture??A few yrs back they put out a $5 stamp for stripers, saying it would help raise stripers plus spawning ares etc...We found out the money was used for something other than stripers...After complaining, they stopped the stamps, only to bring out a Bay Inhancement stamp for $5...What a joke...Now they support the irradication bill coming up...As long as the Dfg head is appointed by the Gov , & He caters to the growers...what chance do the fisheries have??/If your DFG is helping your state, then consider yourself VERY LUCKY....Jim
