homemade drift sock

i've been needing one but haven't had an extar $30.00 to spend on one so i decided to make one. i bought a $6. polyester t-shirt from the dollar store, ran 12 guage steel wire through the bottom seam to hold it open, then sewed the sleeves shut with fishing line and apoxy. i made the seams on the inside so it would look better. i'll be trying it out tomorrow. the wind is supposed to be 5 to 10 mph down here tomorrow out of the northeast. it's a little cloudy but the barometric pressure is holdig steady so i hope they will be biting. the moon is a little fuller than i like but we're gonna give it a shot!!

I found the only thing wrong with your setup..

"$6. polyester t-shirt from the dollar store" you spent SIX BUCKS on one item at the dollar store?! :) I would have used an old nasty sock, youd get more looks too.

i wanted to use polyester material. i don't think cotton would hold up as good, and i think it would retain a lot more water and take longer to dry.

all very true if it works well for ya im hitting up the salvation army for some :) god knows there was a lot of poly worn, and it should be floating around :) I also read in a magazine btw that you can use the leg / foot portion of pantyhose for the same purpose.

good idea, for a small boat. I have the one they sell at west marine for boats up to 26 ft. made out of canvas. There is a lot of pressure on them as the boats get larger. The other day a put my bag out over the side of my buddy's boat (33 ft).and the bag almost pulled me over the side . attach it to a cleat :huh: first. be careful.
