The Bassmaster Elite Series has started its second stop of the 8-tournament season and Virginia Beach's Rick Morris is hoping to improve on last weekend's finish in the first stop. Morris finished 39th and pocketed $10,000 last weekend. The second stop started this morning on Florida's St. John's River. I'll be back tonight with the Day 1 results.

While much of the country is transfixed - quite understandably - on the NCCA basketball tournament, there's another big tournament going on in Florida.

The largemouth bass anglers in the Bassmaster Elite Series are battling it out on the St. John's River for money and qualifying points towards the Bassmaster Classic. It's the second of 8 tournaments.

After one day, Alton Jones of Waco, Texas is leading with a 5 fish limit that weighed a combined 26 pounds, 9 ounces.

John Crews of Salem, Va., is in sixth with 5 fish that went 21-3.

After finishing 39th in the opener last week, Virginia Beach's Rick Morris is struggling. He only brought 3 fish to the weigh-in for a total of 5-5. Had it caught 2 more allowed keepers, he likely would have been closer to the top 50 - the group that after Friday earns cash and gets to fish at least one more day.

The 50th spot has 10-1.

It's a good fishery and lots of ground easily can be made up. But Rick's got to really hit on a few big fish to get into the money for the second-straight tournament.

Let's all wish him - along with your favorite college hoops team - a whole bunch of luck.
