Scored this afternoon on the out going another 35" in 2' of water :funky:
headed south in the morning on the Fins an Grins with Cap. Bob
see if we can land a bigger fish Good Luck men
We were in a local tourny today , boated 4 but knowing we would need atleast 20lbers to be on the board we tossed back a 17 & 18lber. My best friend Todd (TKstriper) managed this 22lber that end up taking 2nd place !!!
Congrats man :a_goodjob: and thanks for buying the cold ones after !!
1st place was was a 24.4lber taken by a friend our ours as well.
Our 1st line hit the water @ 7:00am , by 7:05 we netted that winner. By 7:22 we had caught 3 already. After that it shut right down and never turned back on for us.
Finally slammed em yesterday in the Newburgh area. Caught nothing but dinks till 1pm, then the bite was on. Landed close to 25 up to 20 lbs. Caught all on bloods and sands then had to switch to gulp eels with nightcrawler trailers (yup) after running out of bait. Sorry for the poor cell phone pic. Kept 2 for the table.
Went out of the HH at about 0530 Hrs. Launch was packed. Headed up to the port and had a tough time getting bait. After jigging for about 45 minutes, we had enough to start fishing. We hooked up on the bottom 5-6 times and lost 3 rigs. We also lost 1 sabiki rig hooked on bottom. That was a first. My Dad finally hooked up and we boated an 18 pounder. Only fish of the day. Wind picked up late morning and we couldn't keep 5 oz on bottom by early afternoon. Water temp about 58 degrees. Good luck!!!
Got out with my buddy Dan on Saturday. Our goal was to get him a striper, as he had never landed one. Got started at first light, ran up to albany, got about 10k herring in 15 minutes. Ran back down. 10 minutes into our first drift, Dan whacks one
After a nice fight, got'em in the net, 35.5" 16lbs 7oz
Dan was pumped! He couldn't get over the hard fight and the size.
After that we did a few more drifts along that area with a few pick ups but no hook ups. That was about when the wind started. The way it was pushing the waves against the tide really stacked up the height of those waves. At one point the waves were as high as the window on the Lund:dizzy: Try drifting in that!
We ended up using a combination of the drift sock, bow mount trolling motor, and the big motor to keep us in line on the drift. After about two hours of the bobbing on the waves, I finally got one.
34.75" 15lbs 9oz
We kept fishing, figuring once the tide switched in the afternoon the waves would lay down and we would run to some other spots. Well, sure enough, as soon as the tide started to slow, they laid right down. Ran to another spot, and ended up playing with a bunch of small ones. They would hit it, kill the herring, and then spit it.:smiliedoh: Very annoying. We must have gone through a half dozen herring on this one little spot. Finally I just let one swallow it all the way, and sure enough, a 26" striper. Perfect for eating. About then we heard a solid crack of thunder, looked north at the looming apocalypse, and ran back to the launch with just enough time to get the boat loaded and get on the road.
Caught this nice 38 incher tonight on a chunk of herring boy what a fight
:shocked:It was the only one I caught all day and it was worth the wait:gob_icon_cheers:
after 4 days of skunk.....beautiful morning....light fog...cool...headed out with my dad....only caught two herring but thats all we needed....I caught the first fish around 745am..chunk center....then my father hooked up at 840am...chunk tail....Im so glad he caught..I actually took video...I"ll try to get it up....made his day and mine! also caught some large cats...one fatty had only one eye...wild. heading out in the am.
The four footer is still swimming. but the 33&34"ers are in the bag. Used up the bait last nite [1AM] so had to get herrin in the am [7:30am] took two hours to scap 15 Got the two bass went scappin again on the high tide took 20 min. to get 200:dizzy: loaded the tanks. Went Home to have dinner{7:15} and got GUT HOOKed and put on the stringer. Now I can't fish tonite. {shouldn't have went home}:trout: Tight Lines
Went out of The HH a little after 7:00am and jigged up some bait. Had our 4 limit by 10:50am and decided to have a sandwich. A first timer with us put the last herring in the water and boated a 21 lb while we were trying to eat but we had to put it back as we had our limit. No wind and water temp about 56 first thing. :10187:
Hit the river 5-12-09 after work with the old man. Pulled out of the yacht club to perfect conditions: high tide, light wind, partly sunny skies, few boats. It took a little while to find the bait, but once we did it only took 10 minutes to fill the well.
Loaded up and ran down the river, only stopping to take a pic of a bald eagle that buzzed over us.
Ended up missing two and landing one (29") before the sun went down. It was slack high tide so we needed to use the trolling motor to keep us moving. Both the hits, and the fish, came after I bumped the speed up to 1 mph. I started at around .5 mph with nothing going. Almost immediately after I sped up we started getting hit. I'm not sure if it was because we moved into fish or if it was the speed, but I found it interesting.
Once the sun started really dipping we ran up to a nice channel cut and anchored for a few hours. Just as it got fully dark and the tide really started to turn this girl inhaled a live herring (35", 17lbs)
All in all it was great night. No other boats on the ride home. Both fish released to finish their journey, we got what we wanted out of them!
Well, just when you think you have all the answers, they change the questions, Stripers that is. As you may know, if you fish long enough you will have good days and bad days. Such was the case over the last several days.
My clients had feast or famine; quality or quantity. We had two days in a row that we didn't box any fish although we did have the bites.
Here are a few pics. Most of the nicer fish came off of the drift. Today, we could only catch fish at anchor and they were small schoolies, no pics takin.
We did manage to enter a 40.25" at the Coeyman's derby.
We'll see what happens in the next few days. Temps are hovering around the 60deg mark and all females still had eggs in them.
Headed out at 7am to Albany (with everyone else)..lots of boats...lots of herring....chunked and tossed....my buddy got a 36'" 19.5lb and I got a 32" 17lb....good morning...didnt see any other fish boated...too bad my net broke. done by 930am.
Took the day off from work to get out with my dad for some stripahs. We ended up getting out a little after noon. On the run upriver to pick up bait, the console mounted fish finder transducer decided to free itself from the stern and its wire:dizzy: not a good way to start.
Ended up getting our bait in about 5 minutes. Being late in the season, we figured we would drift the end of the outgoing. Drifted a good 6 miles of water without nary a hit. By then the tide had started turning so we headed downriver to another stretch and drifted that a few times without a hit. By now its starting to get later in the day, and the tide is starting to come in strong. We figured what the heck, and ran even further downriver, looking for some anchoring spots that weren't getting beat.
We ended up finding a solid current break adjacent to a nice big flat. We anchored right on the break, cut up and chummed a few of the dead herrining for about 1/2 hour without a hit. We did see some spawning activity on the flat downcurrent from us. We pulled up anchor and drifted over to the area of the splashing. Re-anchored, and no more did I set my cut bait rod down after chucking it up on the flat, and I had a good run. Set the hook, and well I'll be darned it was a striper! Not a monster, but I'll take it.
Get the fish unhooked, photo'd, and back in the water. The catfish came in after that. Got a bunch of small channel cats, and then my father's chunk rod had a screaming run. Good fight, and another male. this one loved my dad though. It treated his shoe like an amusement park:lff3:
Finally made it up to fish yesterday and we managed to catch 10 fish between the 4 of us ALL trolling. Did not catch one female so where are they ? All males the the biggest not breaking the 20 lb mark. Fished out of the Rondout down to Norrie. Turned them all loose to hopefully grow some more.
