optimum spawning temp

Does the 247 board have a thread or article on optimum spawning temps for stripers?

If not, wheres the most reliable resource?

I always considered spawning temp for stripers at about 45 degrees F. But have never been really sure about that, and want to do some reading on spawning behavior, diet etc... since I can't fish them yet, I might as well feed my head some more.

Striped bass are considered "halfway" anadromous, since most do not travel all the way from the ocean to their spawning grounds in the Bay's tidal tributaries. They spawn from March through early May, when water temperatures warm to 55 to 68 degrees. some times less it depends on the weather and other factors generaly around here we start watching for them around 44 degrees or more hope this helps

This is from "Inland Fishes of New York State" water teperatures at time of spawning striped bass migration between 51.3 to 69.8.

But that is those mature enough to spawn, I know that their are schoolies 1 to 3 year olds in the estruary that may be caught sooner.

I guess at 45 I wasn't too far off. I think here in Maine they must "do what they do" in lower temps or something. Its only the hottest days in hades when we get the saltwater temps over 55, but the 51 range is pretty reasonable.

I'm headed down to the shore this weekend to see whats in the water for forage fish, check temps and all that. I know there is little or no stripers out there, but I want to see what the bait is doing so I will be ready when they come.
