Default Under the carnage

OK...... need a little input to help this newbie out.

Walkin the surf, nearing high tide just after sun up.

As far as you can cast off the beach, the water is just boiling with varied baitfish. The birds are going nuts.

Everyone is catching small blue after small blue, with the "nice one" hauled in every so often.

My "mentor"........ the guy I fish with (who wasn't there) tells me without the slightest doubt "THERE WERE BASS UNDER THEM BLUES....... SHOULDA GOTTEN UNDER EM AND FISH REAL SLOW WITH -------".

I'm not doubting him in any way, but would like to hear from other experienced striper haulers:

A: Do you agree that there were lazy bass there just suckin up the scraps...........

B: Fill in the blank as far as what should have been used to target them if the were there

Thanks for helpin a new guy with the basics.

Jigs, under and behind the passing carnage.
In close to the beach the big lazy bass are usually 25 to 50 yard behind the blues and bait cleaning up the mess the blues left behind.
