Live Herring for Purchase?
Greetings,
The last few years I've been out fishing with no success, and while my times afield were limited each year to one or two, the only real bait I used was chunk. I know there's different times and applications for all bait, but I was wondering if there's any place one can purchase live herring between the Rhinebeck Hudson/Catskill area.
I know there might be regulations in place that don't allow it, but that's not something I'm positive on.
Many thanks and Fish On!
-C

The marina near Catskill Point sells liveys...at least they did last year. Always good to have a live one out there--yesterday that was the deal in Albany.

Re: Live Herring for Purchase?
Are there any places in the Newburgh area? If there isn't one that sells live Herring, is there a place that has them on ice?
New to the area and will be keeping my boat at Riverfront Marina for the season starting this weekend so just looking for a good tackle/bait shop.

Welcome to the site and also welcome to the area! Your best bet is probably Ceeley's Bait Bucket, only about 3.5 miles south of your marina. I think they seem to have the highest prices around however. $4 each live herring. Also, personally I find that live herring doesn't work at all in Newburgh, bloods seem to do better down there, at least for me.

Nice - I like the potential for a dockside delivery!
I know Mike's Riverview Marina in Catskill have them. I think they were $10 for 4 or something of the like...

Thanks I'll try and pickup some bloods. Just fixing the last issues with the boat today and will drop it in tonight or tomorrow morning. Looking forward to many years of learning about the river. Grew up in Pearl River (used to fish on the plings under the TZ as a kid but that would get me shot now). I have been a plug surf caster for years so this should be fun and different.
Thanks again.
