Fishing the West End

I grew up fishing from a boat and in the past couple of years have been without access to a boat and unfortunately have gotten away from fishing. I want to start getting into some surf fishing. I live in Nassau County, Long Island and from the reading I've been doing I think the West End beaches of Jones Beach are my best bet. I know you need a night permit to fish there but are there any permits or regulations for fishing during daylight hours? Is there public access to these beaches throughout the day? Any help and/or things I should know before I go would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help!

Car Parking Only:
Jones Beach: Field 6, Field 10, West End II.
Captree: Main field and Overlook
Sunken Meadow: Field 1 or Field 3 In Field 3 it's April 1 - Memorial Day & Sept. 15 to Dec.15
Wildwood Park. Year Round
Robert Moses: Field 2: April 2 to Dec.31 & Field 4: mid-Sept. to mid-Dec.

I am pretty sure the west end is only open to those with a valid fishing permit (night and 4x4) permit fishing permit for access. You can only get a valid permit after Labor Day. West End field 1 has been closed since the early 90's. West End 2 was closed this year due to budget cuts if I recall. You can still fish at field no. 6 during the day without the permit, but the fee is $10. For those that remember this is the closest parking lot to the famous field no. 9 that I remember fondly.
