Re: 2014 Big D reports
All right, winter is over and we need the Big d to warm up. Replaced the floor and put a bimini top on my old girl. I am ready, would have gone out just for fun tomorrow if it wasn't going to rain. Maybe next weekend. Hope to see you all out there soon, Chuckles

Re: 2014 Big D reports
This is what I been waiting for ~> its that time. Treating April 1st like march 1st hitting the river Monday after all the rains so not expecting much but I'll do my best to locate the early season 1-3 year class bass in the same spots I have year after year.
As far as the claim that big bass enter the river while temps are below 42 that's just not true because they have a preferred temp range and they are not traveling into any water system thats below 42 they move and eat according to temps, currents, and moon phases. No big bass will purposely enter a system that is not in their comfort range. There is sicentific documented proof of this fact. Shad havent even entered in any large numbers and bass follow bait there's nothing to suggest big spawner bass would be lingering in the river channels when temps are not in their range and no bait is present it's just not even logical and I've never marked big fish in the channels when the river is below 42. Not saying there is not bass that winter over in our river but there will not be a large number of these bass just sitting around our river waiting for temps to adjust and bait to come. #Facts that being said its go time lets catch'em up!!!

Re: 2014 Big D reports
So I have confirmed report of 5 bass caught today around DOD from 13"-22" on bloods from the shoreline. They are all residents not migrators. Let the games begin. Catch'em up.
Just got word that 50-60lb bass were caught in the last few days off the coast of VA and also the majority of bass have been pushed back out of Chesapeake bay because of cold water run off no word from Delaware on reported catches south of the bay so I'd bet the main body doesn't get to Delaware bay for at least another few weeks baring some unforeseen prolonged spike in air temps. Still thinking the big girls won't come home until late April. Migrating Striped bass can travel upto 25 miles a day. 2 more weeks until the full moon which officially starts the race upriver to spawn. 55-65 is the key number for spawning temps. Lets get it!

Re: 2014 Big D reports
Anybody with Jet Jons launching from the PA. side north of Calhoun Street bridge and scooting over rapids with success either at high or low tide? I need to catch my first Big D Striper!
I don't post much, mostly read, I don't want to ask the same questions everyone else is asking!

Re: 2014 Big D reports
should be soon now. By the way I was over on the eastern coast of joisy yesterday in a certain creek and caught 4 shorts up to 20" on clam. We were fishing with clam and bloods but they only wanted clam.
On a side note- I was fishing with 2 other guys. I was the only one hooking up even when I gave my "spot" to a young guy to see if he would hook up but mine got bit again- so what was different? I was being lazy and did not feel like doing a fish finder rig so I tied a swivel on, a piece of 3' leader to a sinker and then about 12" up I tied a dropper loop and attached the hook to the dropper.

Re: 2014 Big D reports
Just finished up the first trip. Wind was kicking 20mph easy and the chop got me soaked before even wetting a line this morning. Didn't mark any fish at the normal early season spots and the winds made it hard to see bites. The river was dark chocolate waters were so muddy as I fingered my line on retrieves my finger turned brown from the mid comin off the line. Water temps took a dive over night and that most certainly didn't help the bite. Did mark fish stacked up downstream side right at the bases of the Tacony bridge on the pa side several large markings suspended 7-8' off the bottom in 39' water with several smaller fish in the same general areas. Didn't have any gigs this day and made several drifts over these areas drifting bloods but no takers. Good first trip everything worked the way it's supposed to except for the bass.

Re: 2014 Big D reports
The river is no fun when it's 15-25mph winds especially when you have to work later on in the day. And that's all I'm a say about today. I'll be back on te river around 8am tomorrow. Catch'em up
