live lining white perch in ct river

anyone ever done it...had any success i was thinking of drifitng over some of my more productive spots this spring with them 3 wayed i have read alot about guys in chesepeake bay using them second to spot or alewifes and seeing i have no clue what a spot is and we cant use the alewife i figured id give it a try i heard to cut the dorsal fin off and live line them the same way u do with progys on the reefs in the sound....just wondering in anyone has tryed it or had any sucess with it
