making teasers
i know i should be probably be posting this in the fly forum but id like to get some of u gentlemens take on it. last season i picked up a couple of teasers at 1 of the shows last winter. nothing special just some white fur with a blue streak in it and a couple strips of flashy stuff. they charged like 6$ a piece for them and i bought 2 on a whim not seriously thinking id ever use them . well, all season long i used them on everything from kastmasters to bombers to pencils etc.. and took fish on all of them my question is this do any of you make your own teasers and bucktails and what are some good resources for a raw beginner to learn how to make them (i own no material or tools for this purpose and dont want to break the bank or get too elaborate)

Re: making teasers
Can you post a picture of the ones you bought? Are you going to the summit? If yes, I can bring a vise and we can probably tie a few up.

Re: making teasers
Mull, I'll Email you soon. I do a bit of tying myself. Also we do have a salt water fly tying seminar being given by one of the best, a buddy of mine, at the summit.

Re: making teasers
Do a search on Deceivers. They're a type of fly that makes a great teaser and can be as easy to tie or as complicated to tie as you want them to be.
Start with that and go from there.

Re: making teasers
You spent $6 each on them ??? !!!!
Go back to whomever sold them to you and punch him right in the face.

Re: making teasers
Mully
Gander mountain has most of the stuff you need including beginner kits that start at $14. They also carry all the hair etc etc.
Heres Bob Clouser tying the minnow. He makes it look like I might even be able to do it.

Re: making teasers
Hey Jim,
I just learned more in that 3 minute video than I have from tying my own for 2 years now....that was a good one. And yes, I'm going now to the tying vise.
