Default greetings from Savannah Georgia

just wanted to give a shout out and introduce myself. I live in Savannah and am new to the striper fishing. Supposedly we have some great striper fishing here on the Savannah River, I have just started to get into it. Up till now I have been concentrating on spot tails and trout, but figured after seeing some pictures of some 50 lb stripers I needed to get into it.

anyone familiar with the area?

I fish behind the dam on Lake Russell regularly. There are some big fish in there. I stuck one in there a couple weeks ago i couldn't stop. Just held the rod and let her do her thing. After 300ft or so, my line go's limp. After a few choice words to myself, i get my jighead back in and see its nice and straight. Nothing i could do about that. Man i hate losing big fish.....There are some 50+ in the Savannah.

I seen some schools of large gizzard shad moving up into the area, so the big fish are around.

Make sure your line, rod/reel, knots, etc. are in tip top shape, and you should be good to go.

Welcome! I've never been down that way, but stripers are stripers. There is much info to be had. Good luck with this thing we do and enjoy.

fished the last of the incoming on saturday morning, managed one keeper 27.5", released one short and one premature release on a @#$#$ monster! The picture doesn't do the fish justice. I am 5'11" and 230 lbs.

Wtg. Fenceguy
Welcome to the board.
Sometimes antidepressants will cause the premature releases.
Or is it the other way round.
