BUNKER: Head, body or tail. What's best?
For the longest time I've heard that the head of Bunker is best because it's the sturdiest, and the crabs take awhile to destroy them.
But this year I noticed I caught my big fish on body chunk, I asked others and they too caught more on bodies than heads. Reading reports turned up the same...body chunks.
How about a poll, what did you do best with, body, head or tail. Or whole bunker?

In the spring when the bunker have just arrived and the blues are not around yet body chunks seem to work best.
When the chopper blues show up and are ravaging the bunker schools bass will follow below and behind them picking up the heads that the blues let fall to the bottom. This is when the heads shine.
No one I know uses the tails.

Re: BUNKER: Head, body or tail. What's best?
For years all i used was the body chunks and i caught plenty of 10 to 20 lb stripers. This year, somewhat because of the bluefish, i started using the heads . Didnt catch the numbers of fish but , did get bigger fish.

Re: BUNKER: Head, body or tail. What's best?
I've caught some nice fish on filleted pieces. Sometimes very small pieces.
It all depends on the current, tide and what type of presentation i want to use. I like to use
big chunks or dead stick the head. Sometimes I dont use any other part of the fish but the head.
In the very early spring I'll use blood worms or big sand worms.
Lately it doesnt matter what I use. I couldnt buy a keeper at the market.

Looks like it would imatate a number of baits Jeff. Its about the size of a peanut bunker.
You would have to switch out the hooks though.

Re: BUNKER: Head, body or tail. What's best?
I like using body chunks with plenty of guts, but if there are lots of small stripers or other fish that strip the hook, I use the head. I never do good with the tail so I never use them anymore
