Great ID Chart thanks, but what is OK and not OK to have on the chart. I have been purchasing Sea Hearing from the local bait shop would like to make sure I am OK.

The top 2 (Alewife & Blueback Herring) are illegal to catch, take, sell, or possess, it says in bold block letters beneath them. Atlantic Herring and Shad are ok, with Shad having a 6 fish possession limit w/ no minimum size restrictions.

New England ? Public Comments Requested on Herring Amendment
The New England Fishery Management Council is requesting public comments on Amendment 1 to the Atlantic Herring Fishery Management Plan. The primary purpose of Amendment 1 is to implement a limited access program that better matches the capacity of the fleet to the herring resource. The proposed measures also include: an open access incidental catch permit; a change in the management area boundaries; establishment of a purse seine/fixed gear-only area; establishment of a Maximum Sustainable Yield proxy; an approach to determining the distribution of area-specific total allowable catches; a multi-year specifications process; a set-aside quota for research; set-asides for fixed gear fisheries; a change in the midwater trawl gear definition; and additional measures that could be implemented through the framework adjustment process.

Comments must be received by November 6. Send comments to [email protected].
