NRP and NOAA Fisheries Service Seize Striped Bass

NRP and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration?s (NOAA) Office for Law Enforcement seized 2,702 pounds of striped bass from the commercial fishing vessel Rita Diane in West Ocean City on Friday, Nov. 4. The vessel was allegedly fishing for striped bass within the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), an area exceeding three miles offshore, of the Atlantic Ocean. Additional investigations related to the Rita Diane?s fishing activity led to the seizure of proceeds from the catch caught on the preceding day as well for similar violations. The total amount seized over the two-day period was 7,990 pounds of striped bass. The fish is valued at approximately $15,800.

I think almost 8 thousand pounds of striped bass has a MUCH higher value than that when you look at the bigger picture. Stupid.

I hope the seized fish wasn't just disposed of.
