Hello, and welcome to the forum

Where part of the coast are you from? That's a key piece of info that would really help anyone who wants to answer your questions

I would fish along the NJ coast my friend has a house in Wildwood Crest and that is most likely where we would fish.

hi patty....start by reading this.

https://www.stripers247.com/phpBB2/sh...ight=beginners

fish bait at night IE; clams and bunker.
learning to plug and jig in short notice is doable with a guide or someone showing you how on the beach. some tactics are a no brainer off the beaches of jersey but for now i'd stick to fishing bait and never having the rod out of your hands. key "baitfishing" in the search bar and read as much as you can. more search options are JERSEY BEACHES/TERMINAL TACKLE/KNOT TYING/ etc... utilize the info as you will only be successful if you prepare.

Hi Pat,

My family goes to the Crest also, and unfortunately I have not found a really good spot on the beach. If you can stand the walk, the Cape May jetty at the south end of Diamond Beach is good, but you have to walk through a bird sanctuary to get to it. North Wildwood is a little better, too. The last time I was in the Crest, in October guys were driving up and down the beach hitting the pipe outlets with lures. Never tried that, but I will at some point this year. Good luck and maybe we will run into each other sometime.

I'm also a newcomer to striper fishing, but I've rented a cottage on Bailey Island for a week in July and intend to spend as much time as possible fishing/relaxing. Our cottage is right on the water so I hope to be able to catch something form the rocks.
I grew up saltwater fishing in the Gulf of Mexico but I moved to New Mexico 37 years ago and the fishing's pretty poor around here.
Any help you experienced people can give me will be greatly appreciated.
