Re: Spray paint
those look great... you will get better with the tail wraps in time...
Brush on the epoxy... if it is e-tex, brush it thin.... hang it over paper for ten minutes, then flip end for end, wait ten the flip again.. do this for the first 1-2 hours until the epoxy sets, any surface bubbles can be burst by gently exhaling on them...
As I've stated before, 3-4 coats of spray varnish is pretty durable too... and a hell of alot eaiser for a beginner

Re: Spray paint
One last question. Do you put the eyes on before or after you epoxy?

Re: Spray paint
I'll jump in and tell you how I do it.....I'm in the rig and wire and then epoxy camp.....epoxy the eyes in using 30 minute Devcon and let the epoxy thoroughly dry, and then proceed with your final coat, etex or whatever. Epoxy gives off gasses as it is curing, and if it is not fully cured before you apply the etex, you could get gas bubbles around the eyes (eye farts).
I use the 30 minute now, since I heard that the 5 minute is not safe for water submersion, but I never had a problem with it myself.
Plugbuilding requires a lot of patience, seal them and wait, prime them and wait, paint them and wait, glue stuff in and wait, clearcoat and wait, and now that I have buckets full of plugs I STILL have to wait for the fish to get here, and even then they will only want meat, so I still have to wait some more till the water is warm enough for them to slam a plug.
All this waiting makes me want to kill sumthin'.......

Re: Spray paint
How I do it...
For non lipped plugs AKA: needlefish, darters and bottle plugs, I add eyes (I dont glue them on I just stick them in the recess I make for them and press them in TIGHT) glue the belly gromets in place with 60 minute epoxy and rig the plug...
all metal lipped swimmers get, eyes, belly gromets( gromets are glued) but not rigged until after the epoxy....
I then clear coat them with a spray clear ( acrylic) this seals the eyes and prevents bubbles....( I do this prior to rigging on pre rigged plugs)
after 24 hours, I then epoxy my plugs, pieces of drinking straws protect the rigged plugs to keep epoxy from entering the swivel... on un rigged plugs, after the plug has been epokied, I wipe the lip slot with an index caard to remove any epoxy "dribbles"
I epoxy right to and around the belly gromets, I also epoxy over the eyes as well....if done correctly, I rarely have bubbles or dry spots... 1 in 100 at worst...

And yes, it was bait, and the bait was clam, just after darkness fell.
