Default J Percy Priest, Nashville

Got my reservation. Got the boat ready. Loaded the lake into the GPS. Now what? We're headed down there for Memorial Day Weekend. Camping on the south end of the lake. It is supposed to have a lot of wipers and stripers. Anyone know this lake and willing to share some pointers? I've never been there to fish, but between the lake, Nashville, Bass Pro Shop, etc., it ought to be a good weekend. Any fishing pointers?

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a good trip. Keep a tight grip on the rod is the only advice I can offer!!!! I was on the lake years ago, went with another person, and have no idea where we were at. I just know the fishing was GOOD.

Guess I'll be stuck here to keep the hyb's in line at Monroe for ya!

It should be outstanding fishing! I heard from some friends down there that a good number of stripers in the 40's were being boated this year so far!

LMJ, best of luck!

Thanks, guys. I'm looking forward to it. I'll post the results. Hope you have a great trip, Jeff. I did read one article that said at this time of the year the wipers will mostly be close to the dam rather than up in the feeders on the far end. Don't beat on the Monroe critters too badly, Yaz. I'm going for just a weekend and will want a few left in the lake for the remainder of the fishing season. Of course, over Memorial Day weekend I'm sure there won't be too much wiper fishing on Monroe. I fished there on that weekend about three years ago and we did pretty well, but the real action was on the boat ramps. If I had a movie camera, I'm convinced I could have made the $100,000 payoff for the funniest video of the year. Those guys loading and unloading their boats are priceless, especially the guys who've been waiting all season for Memorial Day to come around, it arrives, and without so much as checking the fuel level in the boat, they head for the lake. You'll see them lined up on the ramp, cranking the engines, looking frustrated as hell. Then they start doing the really stupid stuff. That's when I have a really hard time concentrating on my fishing. So much to see and do.

We got there, almost left to go to Dale Hollow, hindsight would have said GO! Buddy at church tonight said his bud from work was slaying them on Dale Hollow, 7.5lb smallie.
Caught a couple dozen whites on the Caney Fork, want to go back, learn to fish trout for stripes.
JPP was under siege by the dreaded "bluebird" skies, and very skunky for us.
Here's my two from JPP:

I'm sure that's not quite the fish you were after, but it's a nice smallie. Looks like you're there at the right time of day for some wipers. Was there any surface action from feeding wipers?

Didn't see any, Slow, the talk was that the Am bite was slow, water temp had dropped almost 10 degrees that week, after nearing 80, the evening bite was said to be good, but we didn't see it.
The area we were fishing was reported to hold fish that week.
Part of the handicap of fishing from yaks, not real mobile, I did have sonar on mine.
It was a nice hump coming up to 3 feet deep, in up to 50 foot of water, w/cover and stumps. Crappie and smallies, didn't see ANY evidence of surface shad or wipers/stripes.
Conversation w/veteran on JPP next morning says they may be headed up to middle of lake, from near Dam.
I just found Percy Priest Hybrid/Striper club card, Slow, check PM

Thanks Dave, took some stink off me! It put on a great show too, couple nice 2-3 foot jumps, It didn't take any drag because I had tightened drag to pull my yak to hang up. Gotta love that Power Pro!
It's belly was grey with black splotches like it had been laying on the bottom alot. Kinda Fall/Winter pattern up here, smallies lay in holes in the rivers in the leaves.
