Default Penn Mag 525

They sure look (and sound) impresive!
Anyone have any experience with them? How do they compare with the ABU Sport Mags (6500)?
Hate to buy anouther reel,,, but this is in my dreams on the "gotta have" list lately.

I've never heard anything but good things about the 525 mag - used a lot for drum on the OBX. Good line capacity, good drag, and very strong.
The jury is still out on the Sports Mag, seems the mag adjusting ring likes to break off - it's pretty much the same reel as the Mag Elite the only difference (I think) is that it has the ring instead of the lever mag adjuster. Depending on how long ago the reel was manufactured you'll also have to switch out the crappy Abu drag for their new Carbonex drag washers (which are the cats arse)

If you're going to use it to chuck bait I'd go with the Penn. If it'll be used for plugging I'd go with the Mag Elite with a levelwind.

I have the Mag Elite and I love it, it's one of my go to plugging reels. One of my best friends has the Sports Mag, I've plugged with it and can't find any performance difference.

I love mine especially since I won it free from the site :).

It casts great the drag is great and the thing is built tough, I didn't find it all that heavy either. Great for Live bait in the surf, or throwing blood worms during spawning season.
