New Year (2007) New Lure?
Okay, we had an entire winter to tour the fishing shows, watch fishing on Saturday mornings, then head out for the tackle shop to get those great new ideas. What new lure are you going to try this year?
One that I am trying is a Berkley Power Bait Blade Dancer. It's about a 1/4 oz. soft plastic fish of about 3 inches in length with a sexy chartreuse tail. According to the packaging, it has "irresistible swimming motion" and can be fished at any depth. It look like it ought to be dynamite for these Indiana wipers and I will report back when I find out, one way or the other.
If you would, Google this pup and let me know if you think it would work in your area. Thanks.

I've been Eyeballing those. Not to sure how they would work in Maine though.

Okay. I'll give them a shot and post my results. They look like they could do real damage, but you never know. They run about $6 for a set of four--not too bad.

A decent fish would tear it apart. The hook needs to be beefed up before it'll be worth using in the salt.
Point Jude Lures makes something very similar. Unfortunately it's one of those lures that I have but haven't gotten around to using yet - this season for sure.
Check out Point Jude lures and look under eel alternatives for Wobbleheads. To be honest I'll bet a lot of those tins would be killer in the sweetwater.

Re: New Year (2007) New Lure?
"I know, I know, I'm shameless, but this lure, the Gizz4, is proving itself over and over as one of the "go-to" lures when live bait isn't getting it done, or if you fish primarily artificials.
Here's some quotes from Sweetwater fishing guides:
This is a message in part from Capt. Don Schleicher who guides on Lake Percy Priest out of Nashville, TN:
"I had customers out this week from Grand Rapids MI and we caught alot of nice fish on the chartrouse Gizz4...I am placing an order for more...I wrote Todd and Scott emails this afternoon...
i think you guys have a lure that will be here for a long long time...it really does catch fish and i am impressed....the conditions i had the last couple of days were not that great with lots of stained water and the chartrouse Gizz 4 really produced for us...the hooks are amazing...the lure is amazing...thanks for sharing it with me"

Tim Adrien of MonsterStripes.com:
"Found some fish running the bank last night and after pulling live baits with several blow ups but no hook ups, we broke out the artificials. I was casting the Gizz (blue prism) and my partner was throwing a bucktail. We wound up with 3 hybrids over 10lbs and 1 striper on the Gizz and 1 hybrid on the bucktail. Not bad for about an hour of fishing. We kept the live bait out the whole time and never hooked a fish although we did get about a dozen awesome blow ups. The Gizz came through!
Tim Adrien"
Somebody fish this lure in SALT, and let us know how it does, send pics PLEASE! :)
Thanks
LMJeff"

Re: New Year (2007) New Lure?
I'm going to BPS this afternoon, and I'm going to pick up one of those Blade Dancer dudes, rainbow trout style. As I've mentioned in another thread, they've stocked both hybrids and rainbows in the local lakes, and some of the rainbows are tiny, so I'm sure they're being preyed upon. Seems to me a Blade Dancer that looks like a small rainbow might be a good way to catch a couple hybrids or largemouth. Does that sound logical? Am I over-thinking it?

I think you're right on the money, Toad. I would also pick up the glow bodies with the chartreuse tails. Those things just look like they will take wipers.

Re: New Year (2007) New Lure?
I like anything with a blade in freshwater. Especially when trying to locate fish.
Im looking forward to trying the gizz 4 crankbait. I changed out the hooks to 2/0 and I want to see how it tracks in the salt or if it upsets the balance at all.
