Southern Maine Bait?

What's everyone seeing for bait? Mackeral patterns have always worked well in Sept. Mackeral seem to be in short supply lately at the Cape Cod Canal. Not sure is they are getting scarce up there to. I'll be in the Wells/York area in a couple weeks. Thanks for any help.

I have been getting out way less than in past years.... Have not seen as many macks, but a while back caught some in Portland Harbor where a fish place was chumming for us, throwing all their junk parts off the end of a wharf. Couple weeks ago caught 1/4 S#@*ton a few miles out. So there's gotta be some around, just seems less than normal. My river usually has lots of sand eels, seems like not so many this year. The fish report in the Press Herald today was saying there were still macks around.

We've caught a few Macs. The Pollock though is outragous. Ton of bait around and only one striper so far. that was off a mac chunk.

Went a couple days ago and got six with my favorite nose weighted slug-go and hackle lure.
