Default Herring at Night

Hey guys, I'm new to this forum & new to Striper fishing. I recognize a few screen names from iceshanty so I'm sure you guys can help out. Anyway, I don't get out of work until 9:00 pm and therefore can only fish at night. Is it worth while trying to catch herring at night or do they shut down once it gets dark? I've purchased a few of those herring rigs with the flashers & beads & would like to use them plus it looks like alot of fun. Thanks in advance for your input

Great question that I cannot give an answer too, always off the water before dark and never launched with a flashlight, yet......

ive been out at night around albany last year. little slower gettin the herring but totaly worth going. seemed all the way to the bottom with the rigs worked fastest. just make sure you got a decent light cause those little hooks are deadly at night lol.

I have had considerable diffuculty at getting them when before the sun is up and after it goes down. Might snag a few with a sabaki. I reccomiend going out just before dark and loading up on bait for the night.

Thanks for your opinions. I fished last night for an hour after work using gulp eels, didn't bother trying to catch any herring, no stripers but did catch a sturgeon, about 3' long just a baby, never seen one up close before. They're a weird fish

I used a sabiki on a dock one night.
I noticed them where an overhead spot light shines in the water.
Evidently they were attracted to the light.

if they're concentrated under a light, a castnet might come in handy.
