Hi guys, i have a 20' Glastron with a 6cyl inboard. I was wondering what size kicker motor I should get as a back up emergency/trolling motor....And do i just use the tiller handle for steering or???
I tried selling my kicker motor on here but ended up selling it locally. Anyway, I have a 22ft and the kicker was 9.9hp with no tiller handle. the main engine was used to steer. I would be lieing if I said was an expert on the topic but I would think 8 or 9hp would be enough for you.

Save yourself sometime and money and get SEA//TOW. Kickers cost mney and you have to maintain and the one time you need it it won't start. Cheap insurance.
find yourself a older good clean 9.9 have a dealer go over it and check it.
i fixed mine myself cost me $100 all together now i have it on my 14ft IM SO HAPPY I DID!!! if your worried about the 6 cyl. so much why dont you rebuild it since u got the boat for free? just a thought. check into dealer used 9.9 longshaft you can get a hell of a deal.
I've got a Yamaha 9.9 on a 23 ft. cuddy cabin and it moves me along ok! Got a 6 gallon aux. tank for it and use it to troll all the time. Really sips fuel compared to my 140hp main. Craig
A 3.5-7.5 HP would do both jobs, since you don't have a really heavy boat. Tying/rigging the tiller in a straight forward position lets you steer w/ main wheel.
Lakes, close to shore etc.? an elec. trolling motor w/ a "good" dedicated deep cycle battery (100 AH min.) works, not the one you just killed trying to fix the main engine ;)
I have a 7.5 HP kicker on my 7500+ lb. Sailing Yacht and can get 6 kts. out of it. I've even used an 18 lbs. thrust trolling motor to move it around the docks.
Sea Tow, Safe Sea etc. is always good to have!
