My favorite time is mid-November. I've done my best then. Try to pick a decent day with a westerly wind if fishing from the beach, IMO, although it has been said that stripers like inclement weather, I'm sure they don't mind nice weather too,,,lol.
Wildwood stripers love clams, but when they are on the bite during migration they will go after many offering, including,,surface poppers, bucktails with or without plastic worms, as well as live eels, mullet, bunker, speckled crabs, etc.
Depending on the severity of the winter, I have seen them caught all winter into the spring migration north. Depends on water temps.
