There are so many posts about registering a jon boat but everything said is not 100% for sure so who can tell me, in NJ, do I need to register a jon boat that is 11.5' and will have a 5 hp motor or electric trolling motor. It will be used on lakes and the upper Delware.
Finstriper nice to meet you. I am a new member and my first post on this site. I have been boating & fishing for many years from Maine to Florida You have to register any boat under power by electric or gas motor that applies in NJ & PA. and as most states. That is mainly USCG Regulations. each state Varies in requirements.
Rockmann, I'm a new guy here also so welcome to you as well. Thanks for the info, so as long as it's under power, gas or otherwise, length regardless, registration is a must, correct?
Welcome to the both of you. You are correct, if it has ANY kind of motor it must be registered. I am not sure about NJ but all motors need to be registered here in Rhode Island. Even electric trolling motors.
Yes Woodpro, found out for sure from a charter boat captain in NJ. Now I just have to buy a motor and register it and hopefully haul in a Delaware river striper or two.
