Roanoke Rivers Limited season
The lower Roanoke River is open until April 15. This area's boundary runs from the Highway 258 bridge near Scotland Neck east and downstream to the mouth of the Roanoke River, where it meets the Albemarle Sound.
The upper Roanoke Season will run until April 30 and covers the Roanoke River from Highway 258 near Scotland Neck west and upstream to the Roanoke Rapids Lake Dam.
The daily creel limit is two per person from 18 to 22 inches and one over 27 inches. No stripers can be kept between 22 and 27 inches.
To further complicate matters, anglers must use a single barbless hook or a hook in which the barb has been bent down. That starts April 1st and runs until June 30. This allows one to catch and release with as little harm as possible to the fish.
You can catch stripers year-round in the Roanoke and Albemarle Sound but you have to practice catch-and-release.
