roanoke river report 4-25

I took my youngest daughter to weldon this saturday to catch some stripers.she has only ever caught one and she wasnt but 4 or 5 and cant remember it.We caught around 25 or so.Here is Megan reeling her first one in.
. here it is in the boat,she didnt want to hold it so I did and had my bud Donny snap the shot.
and the 6 keepers (3 person limit) that made the ride back to SC with Megan and I

Megan counted 121 boats on the way back up river from where we fished.Man it was some kinda crowded.

Nice fish. I take my grand daughter striper fishing at Barnstable, MA on Cape Cod. She is just getting into flyfishing for them.

What kind of bait or lures were you using. I useta fish the Roanoke Rapids a few years ago.

Those were caught off of live threadfin shad from SC,and the local guys catch alewives which run 3 to 4 in .Herring is the best by far.The other two trips I had herring about 5 inches long.I use em live on the bottom and also use a planerboard while ancored down and I run it over real close to the bank.I saw a PA boat fishing the roanoke last tuesday.
