Its still pretty cold but I am willing to brave the elements. If I hit the back bays what might i get and would should i use to get them? Got the itch and cant wait for the warmer weather. PLEASE HELP ME!!! LOL thanks guys

Probably just cod ling and winter flounder maybe.

Unless you find deep water for holdovers like the mud hole or the lilco plants where there is a warm water discharges. It will be skunksville. The water temps are too cold. Some juvies in the river perhaps. Take a day charter out of the highlands for ling or cod or blackfish to handle the chipper.

I hear that fishermen have been out on nice days trying the Island Beach State Park and Seaside surf with salted clams.
Last year the first (striper) fish was taken on worms at Island beach around march 6th.

The Charters will start next week with bait for stripers but will concentrate on cod and ling. Some big cod upwards of 30 pounds have been reported out of the boats at Brielle. They reported mostly sea bass and ling, cod, pollock and white hake mixed in.
