Heard stripers have gamefish status?

i read on another site that stripers now have new gamefish status. is this true &how can i find out more? the site was nc waterman one person made mention of it and nowone else nows any thing of it.

October 2007

What this means is this order pertains to is the EEZ zone. Striped bass and red drum caught within the Exclusive Economic Zone
Thats 3 miles off of the coast to 200 miles in the atlantic.
Individual States still reserve the right to manage commercial and recreational quotas within the inshore boundries complying with the ASFMC imposed guidelines.

Thanks striprejim for the reply but that only confuses me more.
I knew it was illegal to posess stripers in the EEZ zone becouse of federal regulations.So from what i see they are gamefish under fed but not state? THATS DUMB

Well at least its not up to the ASMFC and their public comment hearings and flawed science whether the EEZ zone is opened or not.
An executive order puts the federal stamp on it.
The Feds shouldnt have too much power over the states anyway.

To prohibit commercial fishing entirely for striped bass the Bill has to pass the house and senate before it is signed into law. As of this writing it is in a 48 member Congressional Committee on Natural Resources. If it passes in the house then it goes to the Senate for review.
Its not a bad idea to follow along with who votes for and against so we remember when we go to the polls to vote.

*PRFC stands for Potomac River Fish Commision that incidently gets another 600,000 lbs of commercial quota not included in the 4 million pounds Maryland and Virginia are allowed per.
North Carolinas 800,000 pounds is actually smaller by comparison.

States that have made striped bass a game fish, include Maine, New Hampshire, Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Washington, D.C. and South Carolina.

Next month the Massachusetts state joint committee on environment, natural resources and agriculture will hold a hearing on the game fish bill.

My questions why would a state become a voluntary member of the ASMFC? By doing so it kinda takes the states' wishes as to managing the resource out of the equation, doesn't it?

Each state has three representative votes.
It stands to reason that you need to make sure your representative attendees help prevent a quorum against your interests.
If not, the opposition would stack the deck against you. Especially if the only attendees would have commercial interests.
Each state must comply within the guidelines set forth by the ASMFC as mandated in the Magnusen Stevenson act.
