It's Ulua (Giant Trevally) slide baiting (pin rigging) in Hawaii. Two rods required; one for your anchor and one for your baited hook. Only the bait rod has a bell.
These are huge fish caught in some rough terrain. 60-100lb test line, 4/0 to 6/0 reels casting heavy payloads (1lb or more anchors) and yes, it is most certainly surf fishing.
Googan beach???
Only a googan to how the rest of the world fishes would think that looking at that picture; it screams specialization and expertise in tactics and execution . . . Flipping Needlefish to Striped carp ain't the be-all-end-all epitome of fishing ya know.
The Googin Beach referance was a locational one not tactical.............
We have a place that is wall to wall with the white bucket brigade during daylight hours.
You need to watch your step for the crap filled diapers, and broken beer bottles, but at night the place can be good fishing.
I have experiance with the anchor rod/ bait rod set up from my time in N. Carolina from pier fishing for King Macks.
It is truly an art in and of itself.
Striped Carp? Never heard of them, can you use them for Striped Bass bait?
