Catching Big 'Cats' on the Potomac River-05/23/09

Capt. Mike Starrett of Indian Head Charters was nice enough to guide John Keeler and myself in order to fish for big catfish on the Potomac River. Capt. Mike is an expert at catfishing. We enjoyed a crappie trip with him earlier this year and we were looking for a relaxing day on the water with some heavy pullage.

Catfish like oily and stinky bait, so herring was selected to fish with.

It didn't take long before John was fighting a big cat.

After quite a battle this nice 30 pound class cat was landed.

We all had fun, and a few laughs, when I lost my only chance at landing that big fish.

We landed plenty of catfish on this trip with most being in the 12 to 16 pound range.
