I didn't hear no enforcement, but I know out in the Hamptons you don't need the license. Something about a few hundred year old law or something!

Thats actually a good question. If you read what the site says it calls for the requirement of a marine recreational license. The MRIP registry is not a license, it is a registry. The DEC web site was incorrect before and was updated last week to the current version.
According to the wording it infers that you would need the Patterson approved license version, but when I spoke to Kathy Hatella at the Hudson River Fisheries unit, she gave me the impression that the registry is was what is needed to fish migratory species in the fresh water portion of the river. It is likely that the NY State recreational saltwater license must be purchased, I will call monday to verify.

You need to have the New York saltwater version above the TZ bridge.
The countmyfish registry wont do.
