Herrington Lake, KY

Has anyone fished this lake? We are going to put in at Herrington Lake Marina and rent a floatel on the lake. We are hoping to catch shad from the floatel and fish early morning and evening near the marina.

Anyone been to Herrington, and caught bait at the marina with lights?

A few relatives go down every year, and I went last year. We had a floatel at the marina and talk about convenient. Dock the boat right in front of your door.

I figured we'd be fishing with shad, but the guys I was with fished with 1/4 ounce chrome, white, or black Roostertails and 5/8 ounce Shad Choppers almost exclusively. They only use artificials and they fish like they're chasing largemouth, but man, they catch a quite a bit of fish doing it. The largest last year was 5lbs, but the year before they got a 12lb fish and several in the 7-8lb range.

It's a nice area for sure.

We're going back down in April. I'm going to try some different stuff like soft plastic swim baits and such.

A good time at herrington is late march and early april with Berkley Gulp Minnows. Fish about 30 yds off the bank in the coves. My wifes papa and I caught our limit individually in about 4 hours. wouldve smoked a tournament.

I love this lake but have had a little bit of a hard time fishing it. This lake is so deep it would seem to me you'd need to focus on shoreline and just off of it in order to do well. I know this is an old thread but any help on how best to fish it is much appreciated. Oh, and if you get a chance to be at the Chimney Rock Marina on Friday nights, you'll never put finer catfish in your mouth than what they serve there. Some fishing buddies and I go there several times a year just to eat.
