Tube and worm

I am a die hard bait fisherman for striped bass. Have been wanting to learn a new twist. Chartered a trip with Dick Pinney Sunday to learn how to use the tube and worm. It was a very successful day in the Piscatiqua River and the Great Bay. We started with the Santini tube in honey mustard color but soon found red was the color of the day. We boated over 15 stripers and one bluefish. We caught nothing big but with the tube you just never know. Here's a few pics of the day.

The first fish of the day displayed for us by the captain.

This is my BIL with a tube and worm striper.

The last fish of the day was a bluefish.

All in all it was a great day in the company of good friends.

It looks like you fella's had a good day out. As you know, they are not always gonna be 50's. But when the action is steady, it's a BLAST!

I find the santini's with the spinner thing catch more shorts than anything else. I like the Le'Tube brand, 24 inch red or black unweighted. I then add eggs above the swivel a little at a time (1/4 oz increments) with a 3' leader between the swivel and tube. The tube gets a better cork screw sweep, and I can control how deep the tube go's. There are times I use no weight and slam large (40 LB) bass near the surface.
However it seems you had a great day of fishing and catching. NICE!

someone busted a big fish of cohasset on a tube recently. I don't have the details but I did hear it was in the 40 pound class, so I guess you can catch some cows on the tube.

I've taken several fish in the 50's on tubes. Thing is, there is nothing new about them as some think. The guy's I grew up fishing with used them 40 years ago. Right place, right time. I also troll as deep as 60 feet with them out by the block in the fall, not just for shallow water either, as some would lead you to believe as well.

Does anyone experience their line twisting when using a tube? After trolling for a little while my line seems to get twisted from all of the spinning. The tube has a swivel so I am not sure of the cause.

try getting a line without a lot of memory to it.

Put a 36 inch mono leader from the swivel on the tube to another BALL BEARING swivel at you main line. This helps keep the twist down a lot. When your line gets twisted, cut it at the first swivel, drop the bare line in the water, let it out as the boat moves forward, until a hundred yards or so of line is out. Reel it in while making forward motion. Twists are gone!
