PIERS

Cherry Grove Pier: Open 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week. Whiting are biting the best right now. Blues are close behind. Spots are also biting. Use live or cut bait such as shrimp or mullet for all, but blues will sometimes bite Gotcha plugs. Several large black drum were reported. Use shrimp. Flounder were also reported using live mud minnows. Spanish mackerel are being caught using live menhaden when the water is clear. Water temperature is around 81 degrees.

Apache Pier (Myrtle Beach): Bait shop open 6 a.m. to midnight seven days a week. Pompano are the fish of the month. A few in the 2-pound range were caught on shrimp. Nice 4 and 6 pound flounder are being caught with live mud minnows or shrimp. Blues and Spanish mackerel are biting well. Blues will take shrimp, but the Spanish are hitting gold hooks. No king mackerel to report. Spots and whiting are biting well on shrimp. Water temperature is around 81 degrees.

Springmaid Pier: Open 6 a.m. to midnight seven days a week, year-round. Activity has been slow lately. No Spanish mackerel were reported. Croaker, pinfish and a few blues were all to report. Use shrimp or other cut bait such as mullet. Flounder were caught on mud minnows or shrimp. Water temperature is around 81.

Myrtle Beach State Park Pier: Open 6 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Spanish mackerel are good right now. Use Gotcha plugs. Small blues and whiting are still biting. Nice pompano over 2 pounds are being caught in the surf adjacent to the pier. Use live or cut shrimp. An occasional flounder was caught on mud minnows. Water temperature is around 81.

Surfside Pier: Open 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week. Whiting are biting the best right now. Use cut bait such as shrimp or mullet. Other fish being caught on shrimp are spots, blues and pompano. Flounder are biting mud minnows.

The Pier at Garden City: Open 6 a.m. to midnight seven days a week. King mackerel fishing allowed only during tournaments. Spanish mackerel are good, averaging 1? pounds. Use Gotcha plugs. Nice whiting and a few blues have also been reported. Use shrimp. Flounder are still taking mud minnows. Water temperature is about 81 degrees.

Winyah Bay Fishing and Observation Pier (Georgetown): Open 6 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week, with free parking and fishing. A Freshwater Fishing License is required due to brackish water. Visitors also enjoy great bird watching. Flounder are biting well on live shrimp. Blue crabs are plentiful using small crab pots.

Folly Beach Pier: Open 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Whiting and blues are most plentiful using shrimp as bait. Nice spotted sea trout are being reported using a float with shrimp. Black drum and flounder are also biting live shrimp. Sheepshead have been reported to bite barnacles and fiddler crabs. Spanish mackerel are hitting Sabiki rigs. No king mackerel to report. Water temperature is up to 82 degrees.

Hunting Island State Park Fishing Pier: Pier open 24 hours a day. The Nature Center is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Activity is very slow. Whiting are biting shrimp.

INSHORE

Cherry Grove: Flounder fishing is good in Dunn Sound. Use live mud minnows. Red drum are at the jetties. Use live shrimp. Spanish mackerel are biting near the Little River sea buoy. Troll with Clark spoons.
Murrells Inlet: Nice red drum are biting shrimp at the jetties. Flounder fishing is good using small menhaden or finger mullet in the inlets. Blues and Spanish mackerel are at the jetties and inshore reefs. Use Clark spoons or live menhaden. Spadefish have been reported at inshore reefs using jelly balls.

Charleston Area: Red drum are in the tidal creeks and around the jetties. Use live shrimp or mud minnows. Sheepshead will bite fiddler crabs at the jetties. Spotted sea trout activity is good in the creeks. Use live menhaden or shrimp. More reports of tarpon at Bulls Bay and Deveaux Bank. Use live menhaden or mullet on the bottom. Flounder are good using mud minnows in inlets.
Edisto River/St. Helena Sound: Flounder fishing is still good in the creeks. Use live mud minnows. Red drum are in the creek mouths and trout fishing is good at all ocean inlets using cut shrimp.

Beaufort Area: Whiting are biting cut shrimp at ocean inlets. Red drum will take live minnows or shrimp in the creek mouths on outgoing tides. Flounder fishing is excellent in creeks and inlets. Use live mud minnows. Tarpon have begun to show up in the Broad River and at ocean inlets. Use live menhaden or mullet and cast into a school of the same.

OFFSHORE

Cherry Grove: King mackerel are being caught at 390/390 and 410/510 (Loran). Dolphin (mahi-mahi) have been reported 60 to 90 miles out. Troll with live menhaden. Bottom fishing for grouper and sea bass is good at the ledge and over reefs and structures using cigar minnows and squid.

Murrells Inlet: King mackerel are 25 to 30 miles out. Troll with ballyhoo or drone spoons. A few reports of dolphin and wahoo have been reported further out to 35 to 40 miles and at the Gulf Stream. Fish for grouper, snapper and sea bass over live bottoms in 90 to 120 feet of water using squid or cigar minnows.

Charleston Area: Blue marlin and sailfish were reported north of here around the Georgetown Hole and also at the 226 and 380 holes, as well as in 150 to 200 feet of water straight out from the jetties. Troll with skirted ballyhoo. Dolphin action is all around but sporadic. No tuna activity to report.

Edisto River/St. Helena Sound: Blue marlin, dolphin (mahi-mahi), king mackerel and wahoo were reported fishing with trolled ballyhoo in 240 feet of water, 60 miles out near the Gulf stream.

Beaufort Area: The wreck of the General Gordon (PA-41) and the Bay Point bars are producing Spanish mackerel when trolling with small spoons. Various grouper and sea bass are being caught around the North Hole and structures in 80 to 100 feet of water. Use squid or cigar minnows.
