Hi Mikey - not sure how accurate the 1st moon in September after a storm thing is for mullet, but the broken surf clam after a storm bite has been common knowledge for a long while, even more so if the water is silted and they have to use their noses. It's one of the few conditions that I will fish clam.

The south shore beaches of Lung Guyland took a whoop'in, so I don't think there will be much access soon. Hope I'm wrong. I'm sure they had fish at Montauk during the onset easterlies.

Those September white bait blitzes are always fun, if you can deal with crowds.

Hey Rich, I am novice who has had my share of luck snagging blues and an occassional striper, albies in October and even a lone Bonita on one magical cast..but I admit that when I catch fish it is just L-U-C-K, so not surprisingly I am in a huge slump. Skunked probably the last 10 times out - including BI, Newport cliff walk, Charlestown, RI beaches and even a few spins in a kayak! I don't have swapitus, but probably something just as bad - luckylureitus. 80% of the time I just throw deadly dicks because that it what I had the most luck with. Until recently..

Can you break down your 2 x 2 matrix in a bit more detail for me and other novices? When are they feeding up and when are they feeding down? What are the big baits and what are considered small? And which lures mimic which bates? Dumb questions I know, but I am self taught which means I don't know nothing!

Hi Fatjack. Sorry for the delay in responding to your questions. BTW, they are not dumb questions. Many of us, who have been doing this a long time, forget what it was like to walk to the water's edge and see nothing but water. Every endeavor has a starting point, and all knowledge is gained along the way.

Someone once said that "behind every simple idea, is a complex reality" and after considering your questions for a moment, it occured to me that this was one of those cases. I'll put a post up (hopefully this Friday night, as I don't fish Friday nights LOL) that breaks this concept down in more detail.

richtrox, I will be waiting for your post. This guy needs help. Only get one shot a year at the saltie stripers. Last two years NOTHING at the shore for me. Usually fish OC, mainly the inlet. Not discouraged but a little down.

I hope my latest post helps you ( the 2x2 matrix), but whether it's Ocean City or Montauk, only sheer luck will drop you into a blitz. Everything changes so often, and from year to year, the only advice I can give you would be this. Stop a t a local B&T, spend a few bucks and ask what bait has been present, who's been catching what and where.

If your fishin an inlet, stick pretty much to bucks and fish any rip you can get on, outgoing would be my first choice in the fall. If you have any specific questions about what I suggested, let me know and I'll try to clarify.
