Thanks for the tip on wet packing, I'm going to try that next time.
One of my pet peeves about spooling braided line is that once it's spooled on it often feels spongy, apparently because it isn't packed on tight, and then when some gets pulled off under tension the line digs into the spooled line. Sounds like that might just solve the problem
